I was on a [wait for it!] group trip, and we were all staying in a high-rise hotel. There didn't seem to be any staff or even any guests not in our group, although I didn't find that strange. It was at night, and we were all just kind of hanging around waiting for something when someone noticed smoke wafting in from a distant part of the hotel. It was decided that we had exactly an hour to get out of the hotel, and that we would meet outside at the end of the hour. No one seemed very worried about it; everyone I saw was going on with their hanging-out activities until near the end of the hour.
When the time was almost up, everyone started running around and heading for the elevators (it didn't occur to anyone in the dream that we shouldn't be taking elevators in a burning building). I started grabbing random items: purse, a change or two of clothing. I was trying to figure out which would be the most useful clothing items to take with me, and my hands were getting full. I also took my childhood stuffed Curious George, although, vexingly, there were suddenly two of him and I couldn't figure out which one was the "real" Curious George. About then I realized that I could have easily used the hour to pack up all my stuff and just taken it all with me instead of risking it burning up. For some reason I had been under the impression that we were supposed to take only what we could grab at the last minute, to make it more of an Emergency Scenario. I was vaguely resentful that I hadn't thought of it, and I wondered if everyone else had packed their bags, or if they were just doing last-minute grabbing too. I was getting ready to be resentful of everyone who had packed, because they hadn't been coerced by an inaccurate impression of what the "authorities" wanted them to do and would not only not lose any possessions but would also be cool and put-together instead of dropping things out of too-full hands.
After that I was in a gym-type building, for some kind of vaguely Adventist meeting. People were sitting on rows of chairs, and vaguely Afro-Caribbean food was being served: some kind of beans and rice, really delicious fried lumps of mashed plantain, and some kind of whole-wheat-looking cookies or biscuits that were in a messy state of tabletop preparation. My mother (?) said, "That's Southern Cooking!", which kind of embarassed me.
As I was standing there contemplating the food, an African guy who had a crush on me* walked past and touched my hair, then continued on to sit with a very kind- and meek-looking wife and cute little son. I was mortified that a married man with a child not only had a thing for me but was expressing it somewhat openly in a public setting (his wife didn't see it). Then an ex-boyfriend showed up beside me and hinted somewhat snarkily that since I was looking at the cookies, the mess would soon disappear because I would consume everything, crumbs and all.
*I don't know how I knew he had a thing for me, it was just an established fact.

Barack
I finally had an Obama dream! I just wish it were a little more exciting.
I was in a grocery store kitchen/food prep area; I had been trying to find someone who could open a can of soup for me. Apparently only certain people had kitchen privileges to get to the can opener, and everyone seemed busy and/or afraid to get in trouble by opening the can.
Anyway, as I was trying to find someone, I heard my name! I turned around and saw that one of the workers was a boy my sister had dated in high school, and started chatting with him. He sent his brother/cousin to open the can for me, as we continued to talk. As the brother/cousin came back with the open can, I looked over and saw Barack Obama sitting maybe 15 or 20 feet from us on a folding chair, smiling and talking to someone, apparently before making a presentation in the other room. It seemed very natural and calm; he was relaxed, and people weren't staring or mobbing him. I thought, "I am very close to Barack Obama!" but didn't feel inclined to rush up and introduce myself or anything.

Flirt
I dreamed I saved a boy from drowning by performing CPR.
I also dreamed that I saw my cute neighbor from Bowling Green, and flirted with him. Past dreams about him would generally involve me remembering that I had a boyfriend and then feeling guilty. Not this time!

Ex-file
This dream was very short, but very memorable, because I am still thinking of this dream many hours later, when most dreams disappear from my mind a few hours after they occur. I dreamt that I got a greeting card from my most recent ex. I remember the pale peach envelope and opening the card inside, but do not remember what was written inside- the card nor the personal message. Since this person is currently overseas, I remember wondering in the dream how could the card could be delivered because there was no return or sending addresses?; it was just blank on the outside. I kept thinking, is he back? How did this get here?
Now, all that sticks in my mind is that pale peach envelope and I am curious about what was written inside. I wonder if this dream comes from the thought of needing to finish the over-ripe peaches I bought last week :)

Reunion
(Wow, this got long! It was the first even vaguely coherently narrative dream I'd had in a long time, probably because I accidentally slept for about 11 hours last night.)
I was back at my high school reunion, but in the dream we seemed to alternate between being teenagers and our current ages. At one point, we were on a bus, and our class sponsor (the physics teacher) was explaining to us something about being able to ride back on the bus, or to take our own transportation and go out. He seemed to be strongly encouraging a drink called "Burma," because it would fit nicely into the theme of what we'd been studying. I did some research, and found a book with really cool old labels from various brands of Burma, and recipes for exotic snacks that made nice accompaniments to it. I never got to taste Burma, although we did go out later; all I remember is that the waitress brought me what was supposed to be a beer, but there were only about two inches in the tall glass, and it tasted like apple juice.
The next day(?) there was some sort of vespers-thing, of which I don't remember much, except that the girls and boys were separated and that at the end, the RAs were the first out. These included people I'd seen at the reunion, in their current state, and at least one who wasn't an RA in school.
From there, we headed to the cafeteria. It was raining, and I was walking by myself. As I turned a corner, I saw a boy from high school, who had liked me a lot then and whom I'm afraid I didn't treat as well as I should have. He hadn't been at our actual reunion. I started crying when I saw him, and we walked toward each other as though everything was going to be okay (I've had the everything-is-going-to-be-okay dream about him before, actually). But then he turned into another (girl) friend from high school, who had been at the reunion, and who was also crying. I was disappointed, but we hugged and went inside the cafeteria together.
My mom still worked there, as did the rest of the foodservice staff from my senior year. I said hi to them in the kitchen, and then we went to find tables in the dining room, which had been set up for some sort of banquet.
The next day was graduation, and it was sunny. A friend and I were walking to the gym for the ceremony, and realizing that I was dressed quite conservatively. I was even wearing nylons, with a dress I recognized as one I'd purchased 10 years ago. I got out my phone to make a call, and when I opened it, my uncle was on the line--he had been trying to call me just as I was trying to call (him?). He was trying to tell me where I should meet him in the gym ("Adam Tennessee"?). I was really excited to see him, but something seemed vaguely wrong and/or sad at the same time that it seemed completely natural. I think I knew there was some reason I hadn't been able to, and wouldn't be able to see him, although I'm not sure I realized in the dream that it was because he was killed almost four years ago.
We got to the gym and were looking for him and my dad, who had also called, but couldn't find them. At some point, one of the security/organization people was walking by with a walkie-talkie, and I could hear my uncle on the other end, trying to either explain or figure out this AdamTenessee business. I tried to make another call with my phone, but realized that it had somehow been smashed and misshapen, although the new shape did end up being rather rounded and ergonomic. I was mostly disappointed that it wasn't all little and compact and as easy to slip into a back pocket as it had been. I never got to see my dad, or my uncle.

The Ex Files
So, I think I have posted on here only once. This is because I never remember my dreams. Well, this morning, between hitting the snooze button a few times, I dreamed about my ex.
In my dream, I'm working at Petsmart as a vet. My ex, who is engaged, comes to my Petsmart and I show him and his fiancee all the animals I'm taking care of. And there are tons of animals. Every possible animal. Anyway, the thing that bothers me the most about this dream is that I had the very distinct feeling that I was trying to impress them. Kindof like I was trying not to seem like too much of a loser being that they're both lawyers, and getting married, and being all grown up and shit.
I'm really trying not to analyze that one too much...

how's this for blatantly symbolic?
i was leaving some sort of a hotel. as i walked through the lobby towards the exit, i passed my ex who was sitting with a group of friends. i ignored him and exited the hotel, with my little suitcase on wheels in tow.
there was an epically long wooden boardwalk that connected the hotel to the parking lot. i began walking this boardwalk, listening to the sound of my suitcase wheels thumping across the planks (i *do* hear in my dreams). after walking just a few feet away from the hotel, i came to a round table covered in brochures. i stopped for a moment to check them out when i heard the lobby doors open and someone walk up behind me. instinctively i knew it was my ex. he walked up and stood next to me at the table, hoping to get my attention. i laid down the brochure i was looking at and began walking again towards the parking lot.
i was nervous and very aware that he was following me. i tried to walk faster, but i had dream-legs (the kind that move slowly and feel all noodle-y). he continued to follow me, trying to catch up but always just a few steps behind.
finally a very large black man who was the hotel security guard came out of nowhere and made my ex return to the hotel. the large man approached me and told me that he "took care of the situation" and that i am now safe. i said something to the effect of "oh, he's harmless. i know him" and the security guard responded sternly that it was very inappropriate for my ex to be following me and that he needed to be stopped for my safety.
i continued walking down the long boardwalk, dragging my suitcase on wheels, feeling conflicted about what had just happened. i felt both a little disappointed that my ex never caught up with me and relieved that the security guard was so concerned for my well-being.

six is a crowd
two nights in a row i've dreamed about the house i lived in when i was in junior high. the house belongs to my grandparents and my family lived there for 4 or 5 years while my grandparents lived in denver.
anyway, in the night before lasts' dream, i was renting this house and my grandparents lived in another house on the same street. i woke up to find bees everywhere. millions of bees, all covering the ceiling and the walls. i ran out of the house and down to my grandparents and asked them what in heck i should do about all these bees?? and my grandma suggested i just go back and open the windows and plug in lots of large fans and blow them all out the windows. she was quite nonchalant when giving this solution, as if this is something that she's been through a thousand times and it was no big deal. and i was all but there are MILLIONS of them! but she was very confident that this situation could be remedied in no time.
********************************
in last night's dream, i was also renting this same house. and i was looking for roommates (i'm currently looking for a roommate right now in real life so i'm guessing that's what prompted this). but quickly the roommate thing got out of control and i found myself with five roommates in a three bedroom home. and what was worse... the two roommates who were sharing one of the rooms was my ex and his girlfriend. and the two roommates sharing my other room was another ex and his girlfriend. and the person who was sharing my room was a guy who i've just met, and though i think he's cool and all... i really had no desire to share a room with him.
i felt overwhelmed and cramped and without any privacy. in my dream i just kept thinking i need my own space! i can't live with so many people! i have to have my own room! this sucks! but everyone else seemed to think it was a great idea.

The reoccuring dream
So..I have had many dreams of one of my ex's on different occasions with the varying content. It usually is about us spending time together and him doing really nice things for me. We laugh, talk , and have a great time together, which when I wake up makes me grumpy to think that in my dream, he is not like he is in real life. AT ALL. Yet, I continue to dream similar dreams of him. The most recent one, last night, we were hanging out and cooking together. He was being really attentive, and funny. There was chemistry too. I just remember waking up with a pissed off feeling that why cant dreams be real life representations of the people in our lives? But, then again, then dreams wouldn't be so interesting..I guess what I am also pondering is why he comes up so often in my dreams..and why I am so happy in my dreams and then wake up with the direct opposite emotion.

Suenos
Yeah, I had a dream about an ex lastnight and I have to say it was pretty nice. Though I don't know what that means. I don't think it means anything but its always interesting to think about what it could mean.
